Regulatory impact assessment in Chile

Following the 2016 OECD Regulatory Policy Review, which stems from the Chilean National Agenda for Productivity, Innovation and Growth, the government of Chile issued a Presidential Instructive to introduce regulatory impact assessments in the rule-making process called productivity reports in Chile.

The OECD was asked by the Ministry of Economy, Development, and Tourism to assess the current institutional arrangement and practices and recommend next steps that would support the Chilean Government to reap the benefits of embedding an ex ante control mechanism.

Accordingly, the evaluation report focuses on presenting recommendations that improve the current state of play in the short term and discusses governance as well as methodological areas in the impact assessments in Chile.
