Reaching our collective international commitments under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development will require political leadership and scalable multi-stakeholder action. Governments will need to coordinate, consult and work across policy areas in an unprecedented way to dramatically accelerate progress. Achieving the 2030 Agenda will also demand the effective use of planning, budget, procurement, monitoring and evaluation processes, to better align priorities and to enhance transparency and accountability.

The high-level side-event to launch the Global Hub on the Governance for the SDGs occurred in the margins of the UN General Assembly on 25 September and brought together around 200 participants, including the OECD Secretary General, the UNDP Administrator, several Prime Ministers and Ministers and other high-level representatives from governments and international organisations. During the event, participants discussed how to foster international collaboration, strengthen the political leadership and reinforce key governance mechanisms to advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The event included remarks by:

    • Mr. Angel Gurría, Secretary General, OECD
    • Mr. Achim Steiner, Administrator, UNDP
    • Mr. Eugen Orlando Teodorovici, Minister of Public Finance, Romania
    • Ms. Ohood Al Roumi, Minister of State for Happiness and Wellbeing, Director General of the Prime Minister’s Office, United Arab Emirates
    • Mr. Andrés Rugeles, Deputy permanent representative of the permanent Mission of Colombia to the United Nations
