Young perspectives on Latin America’s future

What do top Latin American students think about Latin America’s development performance and future? The OECD Development Centre Latin American Desk has surveyed the opinion of more than 90 young leaders meeting at Vanguardia Latina 2008, an annual meeting taking place in Washington, DC. Among other findings, young Latin Americans think inequality is the major problem of their region, consider fiscal policy as an engine for development and reckon that public spending should be first allocated to education. Further opinion surveys will be carried out together with Espacio de Vinculación and BID Juventud.

Unlike indirect taxes, direct taxes generate much less revenue in Latin America than in OECDs.
