Today the average income of the richest 10% of the OECD population is ten times that of the poorest 10%, up from seven times 25 years ago. In the OECD income-poverty measured in relative terms, i.e. taking as benchmark the half of median income in each country, increased from 10 to 12% over the last three decades.

Since Prime Minister Abe and I launched the SEARP in 2014, we have met in Bali, Jakarta, Hanoi, Bangkok and Tokyo. Today, we meet in Paris at the OECD’s Headquarters. I am delighted to be here to discuss how we need to change social norms to achieve gender equality, and to launch the new Social Institutions and Gender Index (SIGI) 2019 Global Report. We are also proud to be launching today a Spanish version of the Wikigender online platform which will allow Spanish-speaking communities around the world to share information on gender-transformative public policies and programmes.
