The OECD Eurasia Competitiveness Programme
Since its creation in 2008, the OECD Eurasia Competitiveness Programme has worked with 13 countries in Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus and Central Asia to assist in the implementation of policies to enhance competitiveness, improve the business climate and support the transition from planned to market economies.
The Programme is a gateway for OECD expertise and encourages partner countries to align themselves with OECD Legal Instruments and policy standards. Policy reviews are carried out in collaboration with the relevant OECD Committees.
The Programme organises the annual OECD Eurasia Week which creates an opportunity to further strengthen relations between the countries of the region and the OECD. It serves as a platform for a discussion on a broad spectrum of thematic issues relevant to further improving the region’s competitiveness.

Learning from each other
The OECD Eurasia Competitiveness Roundtable provides a platform for peer reviews of competitiveness reforms, in which each of the thirteen countries covered by the Programme is examined by OECD and Eurasia countries in a particular policy area.
The Programme is organised in two Sub-regional Initiatives to further tailor the work to regional priorities while facilitating policy dialogue among partner countries. The two Initiatives focus on peer review, knowledge sharing, policy advice and monitoring of reforms.
OECD Eurasia Competitiveness Roundtable
Boosting competitiveness and SME growth through policy peer review and monitoring of all the thirteen participating ECP countries.
Central Asia Initiative (CAI)
Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Eastern Europe and South Caucasus Initiative (EESCI)
Anchoring Reforms
Enhanced OECD collaboration with Kazakhstan and Ukraine provides further support for reform processes in these countries. Under the Memorandum of Understanding between the OECD and the Government of Kazakhstan, and the Ukraine Action Plan, the OECD Eurasia Competitiveness Programme implements additional projects jointly with other OECD directorates.
