This initiative helps the OECD as an Organisation, to "practice what it preaches".

Over five years, we made steading improvement in the environmental performance of the OECD. Development are reflected in the 2016 Annual Report.

For the signature of the COP21 Paris Agreement, the OECD announced to sponsor the plantation of one tree per OECD staff in a Paris suburb forest.

By doing so, the OECD joins the global campaign of planting 8 billion trees by 2020, one for each person on Earth.

At least 3 250 trees will be sponsored, thanks to funds from the Carbon Pricing Initiative in 2016.

To help us reach this target, we invite you to donate additional trees, for the small amount of EUR 2.80 per tree.

DID YOU KNOW...

...that in order to offset OECD’s commuting-induced CO₂ emissions in 2015,
9 300 trees should be planted? Our tree-planting commitment covers around 35% of this target.

In 2015, two beehives were installed in the garden of the OECD Château de la Muette, sponsored by the Carbon Pricing Initiative. The beehives are monitored by a professional beekeeper.

The bees produced 80 kg of honey. Honey jars (limited supply) are available for sale at the OECD Bookstore (Conference Centre).

The proceeds will be reinvested in the OECD beehive project.

As part of the OECD Forest project, the OECD is estimating the carbon footprint related to air travel from Ministerial participants and defining the number of trees we would need to plant in order to compensate these emissions (taking Reforest’Action’s estimate of 150kg of CO₂/tree).

These forthcoming figures will be based from the Ministerial participants entered via the OECD Event Management System + their departure city. The CO₂ emissions will be calculated using the ICAO Carbon Emissions Calculator.
