In the lead up to COP26, this virtual Global Forum, jointly organised by the OECD and the IEA, aimed to actively engage participants in discussions important to the international climate negotiations and to support implementation of countries’ climate responses. Discussions focused on understanding reporting and review under Articles 6 and 13 of the Paris Agreement, on exploring countries’ net-zero emissions targets, and on preparations for the global stocktake.

Session 1 - Understanding current and planned provisions of reporting and review under A6 and A13 (Part 1 - Reporting)

This session focused on opportunities to enhance synergies between reporting under Articles 13 and 6.2.

This session focused on opportunities to enhance synergies between review processes under Articles 13 and 6.2, including by examining experience with current review procedures under the UNFCCC.

Session 3 - Understanding countries’ net-zero emissions targets

This session highlighted the experience of different countries in developing implementation strategies and roadmaps to support their net-zero targets and some of the challenges faced in translating their net-zero ambitions into action.

Session 4 - Exploring the role of international carbon markets in achieving countries’ net-zero targets

This session discussed what role international carbon markets could play over time in a net-zero pathway and what risks and opportunities participating countries might face.

Session 5 - OECD and IEA recent work

During this session participants had the opportunity to hear insights from recent OECD and IEA work focusing on the IEA’s “Net Zero by 2050: A Roadmap for the Global Energy Sector” and the OECD’s “Losses and Damages from Climate Change”.
