Background

The Government of Uzbekistan is committed to green growth and transformation towards a green economy. The Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated October 4, 2019, No. PD-4477, approved the strategy for the transition of the Republic of Uzbekistan to a green economy for the period 2019-2030. The body tasked with promotion and implementation of the green economy strategy is the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction.

Launching the OECD GGI framework provides an opportunity for Uzbekistan to monitor progress towards green growth, including its potential for decarbonisation, energy efficiency in major sectors of the economy and sustainable livelihoods.  The OECD green growth indicators (GGIs) enable the monitoring of progress towards four objectives: i) establishing a low-carbon, resource-efficient economy; ii) maintaining the natural asset base; iii) improving people’s quality of life; and iv) implementing appropriate policy to realise the economic opportunities of green growth.

This work is financially supported by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, and implemented under the GREEN Action Task Force hosted by the OECD.
