    Aided Trade – An Evaluation of the Centre for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries (2005-2012)

    This report presents the findings of the evaluation of the Centre for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries (CBI). The evaluation investigates CBI’s sectoral export coaching programme and the business support organisation development. The report concludes that CBI’s sectoral export coaching programmes were relevant, though often insufficient to stimulate companies to start exporting to Europe.

    Aid for Trade. Policies and Strategies in German Development Cooperation

    An initiative launched by the WTO in 2005, aims to assist developing countries to benefit from the opportunities arising from trade liberalisation. The desk study analyses the general Aid for Trade portfolio of Germany and answers several evaluative questions related to the policy reorientation undertaken by the German Federal Ministry for Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in 2011.

The international literature about bottlenecks in private sector development states the importance of a stimulating investment climate for the private sector. But what is known about the results of the Dutch policy? This policy review is looking into the results of the Dutch development policy on private sector development.

    Good things come to those who make them happen : Return on aid for Dutch exports

    Since 2000, the share of developing and emerging countries in Dutch exports has increased from less than 5% in 2000 to almost 11% in 2012. This study shows that aid has contributed to the growth. Each euro of Dutch bilateral aid produces a EUR 0.70–0.90 return in terms of increased exports, leading to a value added for the Dutch economy of about EUR 0.40–0.55 for each euro spent.

    Caribbean Regional Programme Evaluation 2006-2011

    The programme has had some good results in strengthening capacity in economic and financial management, trade and development initiatives, and environment and disaster-risk management. However, the regional programming focus and emphasis on multilateral institutions has created challenges for direct Canadian interaction with stakeholders at the national level.

    DFID’s Trade Development Work in Southern Africa

    The Independent Commission for Aid Impact (ICAI) undertook a review of DFID’s trade development work in Southern Africa during the first half of 2013. We reviewed two programmes: the £100 million TradeMark Southern Africa (TMSA) and the £9 million regional component of the Mozambique Regional Gateway Programme. Our fieldwork raised a number of serious concerns about TMSA’s ability to achieve impact.
