APEC-OECD Seminar on the Policy Framework for Investment

Hoi An, Viet Nam, 8 September 2006

Organised by the Government of Japan and the OECD Tokyo Centre, in co-operation with APEC, and under the auspices of the OECD Investment Committee, this seminar took place on 8 September 2006 in Hoi An, Viet Nam.

In April 2006, a task force of government officials from 60 OECD and non-OECD countries and a number of international organisations completed its work on the development of a Policy Framework for Investment (PFI) in support of OECD Initiative on Investment for Development. Ministers at the 2006 OECD Ministerial Meeting called on the OECD to promote the active use of the PFI. This seminar provided an opportunity for APEC economies to discuss this new investment policy tool and its relevance for the Busan Business Agenda.

This seminar builds on the APEC-OECD Seminar: Working Together on Investment for Development held in November 2005, where APEC Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Trade identified many areas where APEC and the OECD could strengthen cooperation on investment. The OECD and the APEC’s investment dialogue processes share many common purposes, objectives and methodologies. The seminar will explore potential synergies in making use of the PFI.
