Investment policy reform in Tanzania

 

The Tanzanian government, in partnership with the OECD and NEPAD, undertook a review of its investment policies to support its national strategy for economic reform and to improve the business climate and attract more investment in key sectors, such as infrastructure and agriculture.

 

This page describes the steps the government followed during the review process.
 
 


Consultation on the findings of the investment policy review - Paris, 19 March 2013

Tanzanian government officials presented the draft investment policy review to African Ambassadors and OECD committee delegates. This was followed by a peer review discussion of the report. Comments received at this meeting were used to finalise the report which was published in December 2013.

This review took place within the framework of the OECD-NEPAD Africa Investment Initiative with the support of the Government of the United States.

 

Timeline

2011  
May The Prime Minister’s Office partners with the NEPAD-OECD Africa Investment Initiative to undertake a review based on the Policy Framework for Investment.
Dec The OECD meets with the implementation team, composed of over 20 stakeholder groups, to launch the investment policy review
   
2012  
May OECD fact-finding mission to Tanzania and meetings with over 12 governmental agencies and stakeholder groups
Sep The Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office, together with the OECD, hosts an all-stakeholder workshop to review the draft text
   
2013  
Jan OECD provides a revised draft based on comments provided during September workshop
Mar Second all-stakeholder workshop in Tanzania to give feedback on revised draft
Mar Tanzanian government officials present the draft review to African Ambassadors and OECD committee delegates and engage in a peer review discussion
Oct Completion of the Investment Policy Review and endorsement by the Prime Minister
2014  
Jan Country launch event in Dar es Salaam and elaboration of implementation plan for key policy recommendations
