Electronic consultation: Harnessing freedom of investment for green growth

Harnessing Freedom of Investment for Green Growth is a document approved by government delegates to the Freedom of Investment (FOI) Roundtable which addresses how the investment policy community can help societies achieve their green growth objectives.

Between 3 February and 2 March 2011 we invited selected experts with an interest in the interaction between international investment and the environment to comment on the draft policy statement and background papers (PDF).

Comments were considered by delegates at the March 2011 FOI Roundtable and contributed to the final version of the document which was adopted following that meeting.

The background papers provide additional information about issues in the statement. They address green investment protectionism, the relationship between international environmental law and international investment law, and environmental provisions in international investment agreements.

The final version of the document was welcomed by the OECD Council at Ministerial level in May 2011 as part of the OECD Green Growth Strategy report.
