Triangular co-operation addresses fast-changing development challenges by building on the complementary strengths of different development partners and offering innovative and flexible solutions. It creates horizontal coalitions that complement South-South and North-South co-operation, in the pursuit of shared development goals. Triangular co-operation today includes not only governments and international organisations; civil society organisations, the private sector, philanthropy, sub-national actors and academia are also increasingly partnering in trilateral initiatives. This increases the effectiveness of triangular co-operation, since all partners share their expertise and context-specific knowledge, thus encouraging innovation and co-creation that eventually lead to mutual benefits. As a core group member of the Global Partnership (GPI) on Effective Triangular Co-operation, the OECD has made substantial contributions to furthering triangular co-operation by promoting dialogues and providing in depth analyses.
