11/03/2019 – Today, the OECD and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) signed a renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreeing to extend their collaboration in providing regional seminars on international taxation for a further three years, to 2021.

 

Since 2006, the UAE and the OECD have jointly offered a series of annual seminars to facilitate the development of tax treaty networks in the Middle East and North African (MENA) region and to assist with the adoption of international taxation provisions aimed at meeting the needs of their increasingly integrated economies and expanding cross-border transactions.

 

The MoU was signed in Dubai, by Ms. Grace Perez-Navarro, Deputy Director of the OECD Centre for Tax Policy and Administration, and H.E. Younis Haji Al Khoori, Undersecretary of the UAE Ministry of Finance.

 

 

During the signing ceremony Grace Perez-Navarro said: "I am pleased to be extending this important partnership with the UAE. Through this initiative we will continue to provide valuable capacity-building and knowledge sharing in the areas of tax policy and administration, building on our successful collaboration in the past. Our joint efforts over the past years have been immensely beneficial for all parties involved and I look forward to our continued co-operation in the coming years".

 

H.E. Younis Haji Al Khoori commented, "We are delighted that the UAE leadership role in respect of expanding knowledge about the role and technical aspects of tax treaties was recognised by the OECD at January 2009 Working Group 3 (Tax Policy Analysis of MENA) in Paris and that the UAE stood out as a good example of MENA countries taking the lead on a valuable initiative. We are also proud that the UAE has built a strong partnership with the OECD and have contributed a great deal to the improved understanding in the region of international taxation principles and application and interpretation of tax treaties that has also given the OECD a better understanding of the tax systems of the participating countries in these workshops".
