Focus on financial drivers of environmental compliance

Environmental liability regimes and approaches and criteria to assess administrative fines were in the focus of discussions at the annual meeting of the Regulatory Environmental Programme Implementation Network. This meeting took place on 11-12 June 2009 in Chisinau, Moldova. The Network was established back in 1999 and brings together environmental experts from Eastern Europe, Caucasus, and Central Asia (EECCA). During its 10-year activity aiming to improve environmental policies and their implementation in EECCA, the Network has addressed the design of various stages of environmental regulation. The current work programme (2007-2011) gives priority to projects that help Network partners to optimise selected instruments of environmental policy, move towards evidence-based design of compliance assurance strategies, and better harness economic and social incentives of environmental compliance.
