Nature-based solutions, such as wetland restoration and forest conservation, have been recognised for their potential to address the multiple threats posed by climate change. When used as a substitute or complement to grey infrastructure, they can often be an affordable solution that provides additional co-benefits, such as supporting biodiversity. OECD work provides policy recommendations on how to strengthen the enabling environment for these solutions and facilitate their uptake to help build economic and societal resilience.
Boosting African cities' resilience to climate change: The role of green spaces
African cities face two key transitions: urbanisation and climate change. How can African cities urbanise resiliently and sustainably, and ultimately – be liveable?
On 5 July, Brilé Anderson from the OECD SWAC Directorate and Dr. Jorge Patiño from Peak Urban at the University of Medellin, along with other experts, discussed these trends, the potential role that green spaces can play in the future of African cities, and what lessons can be learned from other parts of the globe.
Scaling-up the implementation of nature-based solutions for climate change adaptation, 24 May 2022
Municipalities are at the forefront of implementing nature-based solutions (NbS). This workshop shared best practices for enabling the increased use of NbS by municipalities, drawing upon international good practices and the insights gained from a collaboration between OECD and the Hungarian Ministry for Innovation and Technology (MIT).
