Hosted by the Federal Republic of Nigeria and under the patronage of the Commissions of ECOWAS and UEMOA, the 2016 edition of the Week placed a special focus on the critical food and nutrition situation in northeastern Nigeria. The thematic session of the Food Crisis Prevention Network (RPCA) was dedicated to "Food security and social protection".

Organised in collaboration with Expo Milano 2015, the Week raised public awareness of the Expo’s theme “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life” from a West African perspective.

At the invitation of the European Commission and the government of Belgium, the meetings reinforced the role of the Sahel and West Africa Week, fostering informal exchange, networking and partnerships.

The 2013 edition of the Sahel and West Africa Week provided a platform for information-sharing and networking between West African leaders and their North African and international partners active in the region.
