Vin Massaro, Executive Dean, School of International Development, Australia

 

Vin has over twenty-five years experience in senior educational management in universities and government, and as a consultant and adviser on education and management in Australia and internationally. He has also been Chairman and a member of several company boards.

From 1999 to mid 2003 Vin was Chief Executive of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons where he oversaw its transformation into a professional education institution. Under his leadership the College also had a direct involvement in institutional strengthening and capacity building with the Fiji School of Medicine, and developed support programs for the delivery of surgical and health care and training in the Pacific Islands, Papua New Guinea and East Timor.

Vin was the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of the Victorian State Board of Education. He was Director of Administration and Registrar at Flinders University for nine years, when he brought about a major increase in the University's international activities. He has held senior positions at Latrobe University, the Lincoln Institute of Health Sciences and the Australian Vice- Chancellors' Committee. He has also been a consultant on higher education to the OECD and an adviser to several governments.

His research interests are in higher education policy and management, with particular emphasis on quality assurance and governance, and he has published widely on these subjects.  He was Founding Editor of the Journal of Higher Education Policy and Management, a position he held for twenty years, and continues as a member of the Journal’s Editorial Board.
