Dr. Ruth Dunkin was appointed Vice-Chancellor of RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia in 2000. 

In 1986 she undertook a Masters in Public Administration (Economics & Finance) at Harvard University in the US.  Her experience and skills in business analysis and strategy implementation were further enhanced by employment at Strategic Management Associates, Hay Group.

Dr. Dunkin has been employed by RMIT since 1989.  In a range of Deputy Vice-Chancellor roles between 1994 and 2000, she was responsible for financial management, strategic planning and business development, together with ensuring the delivery of quality educational and research programs.

In 1999 she earned a Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of Melbourne.  Her thesis (entitled “Making Sense of Change: The Change Agents’ Perspective”) evidences a continuing interest in innovative policy development. 

In 2000 she was appointed a member of the Federal Government’s Innovation Summit Implementation Group. She is a member of the boards of The Australian International Hotel School; Open Learning Australia; and The Business and Higher Education Round Table.

She is currently the Chair, Victorian Vice Chancellors’ Committee and a member of the Committee for Melbourne Interim Executive.
