Ellen Hazelkorn, Director, and Dean of the Faculty of Applied Arts, Dublin Institute of Technology, Ireland

 

 

Dr Ellen Hazelkorn was educated at the University of Wisconsin (BA Hons) and the University of Kent (PhD). She is a Director, and Dean of the Faculty of Applied Arts, Dublin Institute of Technology, Ireland. She also works as a specialist on HE Research Strategy and Management with the OECD’s Programme for Institutional Management of Higher Education (IMHE), Paris. In addition, Ellen Hazelkorn is an executive member of DEAN (Dean European Academic Network), Company Secretary and Board Member of the Contemporary Music Centre, Dublin, and works with H.E.E Consulting (established by ESMU – the European Centre for Strategic Management of Universities). She is a Contributing Editor to Science and Society (New York), a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Irish Communications Review, and has been an expert consultant and evaluator for various EU projects. She was Deputy Chairperson of CITE (Committee on Information Technology and Education), and is currently leading a consortium of 40 European academic, research and industrial institutions developing an EU research programme in cultural/intelligent heritage.

Ellen Hazelkorn has published and co-authored numerous articles and books on Irish politics and society; digital technologies, gender, work practices and the cultural industries; and on relations between the media and the state. Current research projects examine the link between higher education, technology and economic policy/strategy, and managing art schools. She is writing a book-length report for IMHE on Growing Research at New and Emerging Higher Educational Institutions, and also researching International HE Policy Trends and Their Impact on New and Emerging HEIs.
