The 18th Round Table on Sustainable Development

Do We Have the Right R&D Priorities and Programmes to Support the Energy Technologies of the Future? (18th RTSD)

June 2006

  • Outcome:  The meeting confirmed that in the absence of a carbon charge or similar price signal, near zero C02 emissions technologies will simply not come to the market on a scale or in time to have any impact on emissions reductions. While there are useful research and technology development issues remaining to be worked on, the problem is not one of technology, it is one of price. The findings and observations of both the paper and the meeting will be used for the OECD’s input to the UNCSD 15 in 2007.
  • Ministerial Attendance: 10
