Enhancing productivity for inclusive growth

The 2016 OECD Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM) was held at the OECD Headquarters in Paris on 1-2 June 2016, back to back with the OECD Forum.

The MCM took place under the chairmanship of Chile, with Finland, Hungary and Japan as Vice-Chairs.

The meeting brought together Members and Partner countries to explore policies that respond to productivity growth and inclusion goals in mutually reinforcing ways.

OECD Ministers agreed on need to raise productivity, foster inclusive growth.

OECD Ministers concluded their annual Council Meeting by confirming their governments’ international commitments to tackle some of the major economic, social and environmental challenges we face.

In a global economic context of slow growth, weak trade and investment and persistently high unemployment, the Ministers called on the OECD to explore policy solutions for enhancing productivity while fostering inclusive growth.

Chaired by Chile, the Ministerial Meeting marked the accession of Latvia and the launch of the OECD Latin America and Caribbean Regional Programme.

The central theme - how to achieve higher productivity and enhance inclusiveness, at the individual (or household), firm, regional or country level - permeated across all MCM sessions.

Ministers also discussed:

  • the economic outlook
  • the strategic orientations of the Secretary-General
  • how to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
  • how to strengthen the contribution of trade and investment to productivity and inclusive growth
