ITEM 5: DOMESTIC POLICIES TO ENSURE PEOPLE, FIRMS, regions and cities CAN THRIVE IN AN OPEN AND DIGITALISED ENVIRONMENT

    • Plenary session


The session:

  • reviewed the available policy tools for national governments to create the conditions at home that allow the potential benefits of open markets and technological progress to materialise fully and more fairly across social groups, firms and geographical areas, including through structural policies

  • discussed how to provide the required conditions for raising the productivity of laggard firms and how better policies, public investment and more efficient public spending can support job creation

  • addressed issues such as displaced workers and job quality, as well as inequalities of income and opportunity

  • reviewed the policies that can help reduce productivity and well-being divides across regions and cities

Following a plenary introduction session, Ministers convenedin breakout groups and focused on the key aspects of the main MCM theme:

 

    • Breakout Group 1 – Ensuring all people can thrive in an open and digitalised economy
    • Breakout Group 2 – Ensuring firms can thrive in an open and digitalised economy
    • Breakout Group 3 – Ensuring regions and cities can thrive in an open and digitalised economy
