OECD ICT Key indicators: Source, current status and definitions

 

1. Access lines and channels in total for OECD

- Source: Data compiled from original and/or official Sources by Secretariat

- Current status: 2003 Provisional Data available from the Communications Outlook.

- Definition: An access line is a telephone line connection the subscriber's terminal equipment to the public switched network and which has a dedicated port in the telephone exchange equipment. Access channels refer to the sum of the standard analogue access lines and the number of equivalent 64 Kbps transmission paths enabled by ISDN lines. Total lines count ISDN subscriber lines as a single transmission path.

 

2.   Mobilesubscribers in total for OECD Data compiled from original and/or official

- Current status: 2003 Provisional Data available from the Communications Outlook.

- Definition: Total number of subscribers to an automatic public mobile telephone service which provides access to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).

 

3. Internet subscribers in total for OECD Data compiled from original and/or official

- Current status: 2003 Provisional Data available from the Communications Outlook.

- Definition: The number of Internet subscribers is the number of active registered Internet accounts including all fixed network access technologies to Internet.

 

4a. Broadband subscribers per 100 inhabitants in OECD countries

- Source: Data compiled from original and/or official Sources by Secretariat

- Current status: 2003 Provisional Data available from the Communications Outlook.

- Definition: The number of Internet subscribers is the number of active registered Internet accounts including all fixed network Broadband access technologies: Digital Subscriber Line services, Cable Modem services, Satellite broadband Internet, Fibre-to-the-home Internet access, Ethernet LANs, Fixed wireless subscribers. This excludes 3G subscribers

 

4b. Availability of Digital Subscriber Lines (DSL) in OECD countries

- Source: Data compiled from original and/or official Sources by Secretariat

- Current status: 2003 Data available from the Communications Outlook.

- Definition: The availability of DSL is the actual and potential coverage of access lines upgraded with DSL capability (as a % of total subscriber lines) by Public Telecommunications Operator(s).

- Definition: Telecommunication services revenue consists of telecommunications service earnings during the financial year under review.

 

9b.Mobile telecommunication services revenue in total for OECD

- Definition: Revenues from the provision of mobile communications services such as cellular, private trunked radio and radio paging.

 

9c.Telecommunication infrastructure investment in total for OECD

- Definition: Telecommunication infrastructure investment  consists in the expenditure associated with acquiring the ownership of property (including intellectual and non-tangible property such as computer software) and plant. These include expenditures on initial installations and on additions to existing installations where the usage is expected to be over an extended period of time. Excludes expenditures on research and development and fees for operating licenses and for the use of radio spectrum. Also referred to as capital expenditure.
