Ethiopia combines one of the fastest growing economies in Africa, with one of the highest population growth rates in the world. According to the 2007 Census, young people aged 15-24 comprise 20.1% of the total population- indicating that young people play a crucial role in the success of Ethiopia’s development strategy. Bearing this in mind, the government of Ethiopia has established the Ministry of Women, Children and Youth Affairs and subsequently adopted the Women and Youth national policies, which ensure the commitment and future direction of the government and thereby providing the framework for the national priorities towards empowering Women and Youth.

These efforts should be pursued and complemented in order to have comprehensive, well organized and sector-specific women and youth focused information which is instrumental in enhancing the socio- economic and political participation and benefits of the Ethiopian women and youth.
