Niclaus Bergmann, Savings Banks Foundation for International Cooperation, SBFIC

 

Niclaus Bergmann is Managing Director of Sparkassenstiftung für internationale Kooperation (Savings Banks Foundation for International Cooperation, SBFIC) in Bonn, Germany.

Sparkassenstiftung is the non-profit international consulting arm of the Sparkassen Finance Group, the largest banking group in Germany with 14,000 branches and more than 300,000 staff. Sparkassenstiftung is currently managing projects in 46 countries, mainly in Asia, Africa, Latin America and South East Europe. The projects aim at Financial Inclusion and cover topics such as Institutional Development, MSME Finance, Rural Finance, Green Finance, Capacity Development and Financial Literacy.

Niclaus Bergmann holds a Masters degree from Göttingen University. He started his banking career with Sparkasse Norden, mainly focussing on SME financing. In 1993, he joined Sparkassenstiftung as senior consultant and project manager. Since 2000 he was responsible for setting up SBFIC´s activities in Mexico. After managing projects in Latin America, Asia and Africa, he became Managing Director of SBFIC in September 2009.
