    Spain: Country Health Profile 2019

    This profile provides a concise and policy-relevant overview of health and the health system in Spain as part of the broader series of the State of Health in the EU country profiles. It provides a short synthesis of: the health status in the country; the determinants of health, focussing on behavioural risk factors; the organisation of the health system; and the effectiveness, accessibility and resilience of the health system. This profile is the joint work of the OECD and the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies, in co-operation with the European Commission.

    The Survey of Adult Skills - Reader’s Companion, Third Edition

    This edition of the Reader’s Companion accompanies Skills Matter: Additional Results from the Survey of Adult Skills that reports the results from the 39 countries and regions that participated in the 3 rounds of data collection in the first cycle of PIAAC, with a particular focus on the 6 countries that participated in the third round of the study (Ecuador, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Peru and the United States). It describes the design and methodology of the survey and its relationship to other international assessments of young students and adults. The Survey of Adult Skills, a product of the OECD Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC), was designed to provide insights into the availability of some key skills in society and how they are used at work and at home. The first survey of its kind, it directly measures proficiency in several information-processing skills – namely literacy, numeracy and problem solving in technology-rich environments.

    La Pesada Carga de la Obesidad - La Economía de la Prevención: Key findings for Spain (in Spanish)

    Más de la mitad de la población adulta en España padece sobrepeso, lo que tiene unos efectos importantes. Los españoles viven en promedio 2,6 años menos debido al sobrepeso. Las repercusiones sobre la economía son destacables: el sobrepeso representa el 9,7 % del gasto en salud; y reduce la producción del mercado de trabajo en una cuantía equivalente a 479 000 trabajadores a tiempo completo por año.

    The Heavy Burden of Obesity: Key findings for Spain

    Over half the adult population in Spain is overweight, and this has a significant impact The Spanish live on average 2.6 years less due to overweight. The impact on the economy is large: overweight accounts for 9.7% of health expenditure; and lowers labour market outputs by the equivalent of 479 thousand full time workers per year. Combined, this means that overweight reduces Spain’s GDP by 2.9%.

    Open Government in Biscay

    The Review analyses the open government agenda of the Province of Biscay, based on the 2017 OECD Recommendation of the Council on Open Government. It assesses Biscay’s initiatives regarding transparency, accountability and stakeholder participation and how they impact the quality of public service delivery. This review also evaluates Biscay’s institutional, legal and policy frameworks for the implementation of these initiatives, focusing on the creation of a sound monitoring and evaluation system. The report includes recommendations to foster a public governance culture that empowers all stakeholders to actively participate throughout the entire policy cycle. This is the first OECD Open Government Review carried out in a subnational government of an OECD member country.
