OECD Environment Meetings at Ministerial level

Meeting of the Environment Policy Committee at Ministerial Level
30-31 March 2022

2022 ENV Ministerial

The OECD gathered Environment Ministers for a meeting on 30-31 March 2022 under the theme “Ensuring a Resilient and Healthy Environment for All” and featured two central focuses – climate and plastics. Ministers discussed the climate challenge and next steps after COP26, with critical themes including climate finance, mitigation and adaptation, pricing carbon and bridging the gap between longer-term goals and near-term commitments. The release of the OECD’s first-of-its-kind Global Plastics Outlook provides a unique input for Ministers to discuss plastics including the urgent need to reduce the amount of waste and toxic substances entering the environment, while making much more efficient use of scarce resources. Ministers also met in smaller breakout groups on a range of key environmental topics.

Meeting of the Environment Policy Committee at Ministerial Level
28-29 September 2016, OECD Paris

‌Environment Ministers from OECD and selected non-member countries met at OECD Headquarters under the chairmanship of New Zealand, with Chile and Slovenia as Vice-Chairs. The meeting took place after two major international events in 2015, the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. These international events will significantly shape the national and international environmental policy landscape for many years into the future. Ministers reflected on these developments and discussed how policies can help their countries to meet their commitments.

OECD Environment Ministers met to discuss the environmental trends and projections in the OECD Environmental Outlook to 2030, environmental co-operation between OECD countries and emerging economies, challenges (competitiveness concerns) and opportunities (eco-innovation) associated with policies to address climate change, and the enhancement of government-wide co-operation to address climate change.

Meeting of the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) and the OECD Environment Policy Committee (EPOC) at Ministerial Level
4 April 2006, Paris

OECD Development and Environment Ministries and Agencies joined forces to launch a process to work in partnership with developing countries to integrate environmental factors efficiently into national development policies and poverty reduction strategies.

20-21 April 2004, Paris

The meeting of OECD Environment Ministers and partners was a timely opportunity to take stock of implementation of the OECD Environmental Strategy, to share experiences with the design of efficient and effective environmental policies and how to overcome some of the challenges to better policy integration and subsidy reform, and to highlight the role of partnerships in a globalizing world. Ministers adopted a Statement outlining priorities for Further Work at the OECD on Sustainable Development, and endorsed 3 OECD Council Acts to support environmental policy design and monitoring.
