The OECD develops guidance documents on how to test the efficacy of biocides using the latest methods to ensure that only biocides that have proven to be effective can be put on the market. For disinfectants, this guarantees that the health of the public is protected. By harmonising these test methods through the OECD, companies developing biocides can use the same results for their authorisation dossiers in many countries, which reduces costs and the time needed to get them approved by national authorities.
