Global awareness campaign on the safety of toys sold online

While toys are a large and growing market, they are also the cause of thousands of injuries annually across many jurisdictions. According to data from the OECD Global Recalls portaltoys and games are one of the most recalled products, accounting for over 20% of recall notices published.

As e-commerce continues to grow, toys sold through this channel may pose serious safety risks to consumers. Investigations reveal that non-compliant products continue to remain available for sale in e-commerce. It is becoming increasingly important to make efforts to raise consumer and business awareness of product safety risks.

A dozen jurisdictions will be taking part in the OECD's November 2020 global awareness campaign on the safety of toys sold online, which aims to:

  • Assist consumers in making an informed decision when purchasing toys online and knowing how to react if they have purchased an unsafe toy.
  • Enhance business understanding of the importance of selling safe toys online and removing unsafe toys from sale immediately.
