OECD Development Centre’s High-level International Women’s Day Event
The OECD Development Centre hosted a high-level event to commemorate International Women’s Day. The event brought together two Paris-based organisations, the United Nations Organisation for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), as well as Ambassadors from France and Argentina, to share views on advancing gender equality. The panel focused on how the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can best be leveraged and operationalised to empower women and achieve gender equality by 2030.
The panellists offered their organisation’s or country’s roadmap for achieving the ambitious targets of the 2030 Agenda. Such strategies include the economic empowerment of women, building on the OECD Development Centre’s recent working paper: Does gender discrimination in social institutions matter for long-term growth? Cross-country evidence. The high-level event was a unique opportunity to identify synergies and collaborations throughout the international development community to promote gender equality, facilitating greater global dialogue between developed and emerging economies on this critical pillar of sustainable development.
A Q&A session with the audience followed the panel’s interventions.
